Moody Blues Bee - September 2011

It's my month for the Moody Blues bee to pick a pattern and ship out fabric! I had a hard time with this one because I want to make a quilt for my father-in-law but he only really likes BLACK or all things Hawaii. So I found some cool print fabric and decided on some solids and lots of black. Then the pattern stumped me. I didn't want anything too structured but after tossing and turning many a night I decided on a Wonky Log Cabin w/some curvy lines. And after many more sleepless nights I decided I didn't want to do that to my fellow bee ladies. So I'm giving them a choice. Either a slightly wonky log cabin like this:

OR to make a Log Cabin with curvy lines like this:

I only want my fellow bee-mates to do the wavy lines if they feel confident to do it. They aren't the easiest to do w/out practice (wavy lines). So for the blocks I'm referring them to the following sites for a tutorial.

The fabric is all cut and packaged...yippee! Shipping packages out tomorrow!

First post!

Why is it so hard to figure out what to write for my first post?? Yikes! I have so many things going on in my mind I'm keeping myself up late at night. I guess I'll start with the "to do" list and then go from there.

To do:
Finish Sample block and cut materials to be mailed to my peeps in the Moody Blues Bee. (my month is September and it came up rather quickly!! I'm definitely not prepared. I decided to have the girls do my father in law's quilt blocks. He's a huge fan of BLACK. ugh. No fun, but I have wanted to step out and get more "modern" by using more solids than prints. I found a few nice hawaiian prints that will be used along with the black, tan, and cream solids. And the pattern, this has kept me up many a night trying to figure it out. I wanted to make it simple but also wanted something different. It's going to be a log cabin with a twist of wavy lines and not too many rounds/fabrics. I'll post pictures later!

Next on the agenda is my Modern Quilt Guild Challenge quilt that I want to enter. I will start on it after Labor day and that one's top secret!! I'm excited as it's for my hubby!!

3x6 mini bee blocks for hive #7 (3rd quarter). I've already received two fabulous blocks and I'm still undecided what I'll be doing for my pattern.

I know there are more but this is all I can squeeze in here in between my day at work!

TGIF!!!
